I just walked into another company that used Element8 recently like I did a few years back - and unfortunately, the exact same issues remain. And that is why I am writing a negative review, which I usually refrain from doing, hoping that they really clean up their act:
As an agency, Element8 overpromises (really lovely pitch deck and well-structured process) and underdelivers (lack of account management, accountability, and technical flaws all over the place, basically, they love cutting corners. And then they try to sell you an expensive AMC to fix their own mistakes, but the guys doing the job don’t really know how to, either). And here are my reasons in detail:
1) As a client, you need to have a very good understanding of who you are and what you do. Make sure you have strong brand guidelines and messaging in place, as well as a structure of what and how you want to communicate, otherwise you end up with the colour scheme of whichever WordPress template they are using (you know that terrible yellow when you hover over links - exactly that one!).
2) They hardcode a lot of things, which basically does not allow you to change certain elements of your pages - unless (wait for it), you are a programmer yourself or hire one who can fix it on cPanel/FTP level). Also, some WordPress upgrades basically make it impossible to access any of your content. Cheers!
3) They mass-upload your images in 2MB size, which makes your website slow and penalizes you on Google. Also, there are CCS / HTML issues that will also lead to a downgrade (I assume they keep on copying and pasting the same base structure repeatedly, w/o listening to previous grievances of their existing/past clients). And, the length of certain sites, for example project descriptions, is very restrictive, which is also not particularly ranking-friendly. So, whatever SEO-optimization they are selling you, it’s not delivered in reality.
Honestly, I think Element8 has a lot of potential, and I truly wished they were doing a great job – because just look at their client list, they could make a lot of people truly happy with an excellent service provision!
